About
Investing in the future of healthcare
Arboretum's investment team believes that healthcare will continue to prove a fertile market for successful, early-stage venture capital investing. We are interested in companies that:
- address large, growing patient populations
- create less-invasive, easier-to-use medical products and services
- develop products and services that lower the overall cost of healthcare
Additionally, we emphasize technologies that can be developed and commercialized in a highly capital-efficient manner.
Early, active involvement
The majority of our portfolio companies are considered "early-stage," where product development and early clinical adoption are the main objectives; however, we will also invest in both seed-stage (demonstrating proof of principle) and mid-stage (entering full commercialization) opportunities when they fit well with our other investment criteria. We invest with the intent of supporting our companies throughout their life cycle across multiple financings. We are actively investing from our second fund and are seeking to invest approximately $4 to $6 million over the life of a company, with an initial investment ranging from $1 to $3 million.
Experience and connections to make it happen
Our investment partners have decades of experience within healthcare and entrepreneurial companies as a resource for our companies to draw upon. In addition, our advisors include the past and current CEOs of two of the largest medical device companies, Medtronic and Guidant. We have the resources and expertise to help our portfolio companies achieve success, whether we are asked to assist with operational issues, management recruiting, or fundraising.
