Arboretum Adds Guidant Founder and Retired CEO Dollens to Advisory Group
Arboretum is pleased to announce the addition of Ronald W. Dollens to its Technical Advisory Board for Arboretum Ventures II. Ron is the retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Guidant Corporation, a Fortune 500 company acquired by Boston Scientific in 2006 for $27 billion. Prior to his post at Guidant, Ron was President of the Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division of Eli, Lilly & Company, which spun off Guidant in 1994. He is currently the non- executive Chairman of the Board for Kinetic Concepts Inc. and a Director of ABIOMED Corporation. Ron received his B.S. in Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences from Purdue University and an MBA from Indiana University.

Arboretum Invests in VasoNova, Inc. and Accuri Cytometers, Inc.
  • VasoNova, Inc. In March 2007, Arboretum participated in a $2.4 million Series A investment in VasoNova, Inc. The Company is developing a novel peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) device to enable easier, more accurate catheter placement in patients requiring long- term vascular access. PICCs are used primarily to deliver antibiotics, chemotherapy, and nutrition regimens. VasoNova is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA at Coronis Medical Ventures. Coronis is a medical device accelerator that provides both financing and management expertise to start-up companies. As part of the financing, Jan Garfinkle joined the Company's Board of Directors.

  • Accuri Cytometers, Inc. In April 2007, Arboretum co-led the $5 million Series B investment in Accuri Cytometers, Inc., the first investment out of Arboretum's second fund. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Accuri is a life sciences company developing revolutionary bench top flow cytometer systems, based on technology developed at the University of Michigan. The Company intends to use the Series B proceeds for the ongoing testing and upcoming commercial launch of the Accuri C6 Flow Cytometer™ System. Tim Petersen of Arboretum and Pete Shagory of Baird Venture Partners joined the company's Board of Directors as part of the financing.


    Arboretum Promotes Marshall and McCreadie
    Arboretum is pleased to announce the promotion of two staff members, Marcy Marshall and Paul McCreadie. Marcy, who joined Arboretum in 2004, has been promoted to Vice President of Finance, where she will continue to oversee the financial affairs of the firm in an expanded capacity. Paul, who joined Arboretum in 2006, has been promoted from Associate to Senior Associate. He will continue to work with Arboretum's Managing Directors in conducting due diligence and working with portfolio companies. Both Marshall and McCreadie have undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan.
