Thomas Kinnear, Strategic Limited PartnerTom Kinnear joined Arboretum Ventures in 2009 as a Strategic Limited Partner. His efforts are focused primarily on evaluating new investment opportunities as part of the investment team and also to provide strategic advice to Arboretum's Managing Directors. Tom is the Eugene Applebaum Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies, the Executive Director of the Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, and a Professor of Marketing at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Previously, Tom was Senior Associate Dean of the Ross School of Business and former Vice President for Development and Executive Officer for the University. While at the University of Michigan, Tom has received numerous awards for teaching excellence and service. Earlier in his career, he held faculty appointments at Harvard University and Stanford University. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Tom is a long-time angel investor, co-founder of several high-technology companies, and an advisor to Michigan start-ups and Michigan-based venture capital funds. Tom is currently president and chair of the board of directors of the Venture Michigan Corporation, a $200 million venture capital fund of funds, and a member of the board of directors of Invest Michigan, and the Michigan Venture Capital Association. He has been a member of the board of directors or corporate advisory boards for a number of companies, including Accuri Cytometers, BlueGill Technologies (acquired by CheckFree), Domino's Pizza, and Mobius Microsystems. Tom is also a thought leader in the field of marketing and has served as a director and past-chair of the Board of the American Marketing Association and former chair of the Board of the American Marketing Association Foundation. In addition, Tom has co-authored several books, including Principles of Marketing and Marketing Research: An Applied Approach. Tom holds an undergraduate degree and an LLD (honorary) from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario, an MBA from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
